Chicken Clichés
Humans have been keeping chickens for thousands of years, so it makes sense that we would have lots of sayings about them! We have a feeling that some of them were born from real-life experiences, such as “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” or “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.” We have to imagine that some poor soul tripped and ruined breakfast for the week, and thus, the saying was born. However, we’re not sure why so many of them are negative. Why does “laying an egg” mean that you failed? Why has “chicken” become another term for someone who is essentially a coward? We think chickens are pretty great, and not just as a source of food! They’re incredibly intelligent birds and can even demonstrate affection toward humans from time to time. They deserve to be celebrated, too!
