THE REASON FOR ALL THE LOVE
For years, folks have been trying to put a thumb down on exactly why the panda is as adorable and beloved as it is. Could it be the endangered status? Well, unfortunately, no. There are plenty of other vulnerable species out there that folks don't go (eastern) gorilla over. Perhaps it was the way that they snack on bamboo? Their clumsy behavior while doing so? Maybe it is the big black spots over their eyes, giving them that bandit-like raccoon look?
Well, that last one isn't too far from the truth. Turns out that the panda bear's original name means bear cat. Our beloved giant panda's behaviors apparently reminded ancient Chinese writers of the antics of the house cat. So, that explains it! They're basically giant bear versions of cats. No wonder we can watch them all day on the Internet! No wonder they manage to be both graceful and completely clutzy at the same time. No wonder we all need one!

In order to sate our desperate desire to cuddle the rare panda bear, our designers have spent months hiding in quiet observation, snacking on bamboo diets.
